“During my internship I experienced the way how huge corporations work, being part of a truly international team, working in a challenging environment and in addition seeing how the skills and attitudes gained while working in AIESEC fit to the corporate world – this all first of all broke down a prejudice for me that in a huge company it´s impossible to make a difference and helped me to realize the next steps to take in my life.
After moving to a new flat in the beginning of my internship, I actually faced a challenge I didn´t expect to. I was not able to find a garbage bin in the house. There were just bins for paper around. The house did not have a yard, so I knew that the garbage room needed to be somewhere. But where? As in some of those old type houses you have a special room in the cellar, however in my new house the cellar was completely dark without any proper place to leave your garbage. There was one bin in the street next to the `würstel stand`, which I used for few days, while being sure that this can´t be for the whole house. In the end, my local flat mates returned and showed me the right room, which I somehow had skipped it during my search.
I improved my skills, especially in project management and result orientation, gained better understanding about business processes in corporate world, seeing the difference in approach while working with different countries, moreover building a network of contacts, which I consider highly valuable for the future.
If at first place Estonia seem not to be so different from Austria, then after having a closer look, you can still find tons of differences. Just to point out few of them:
If almost all the Estonians, know Austria by the movie Sound of Music and have a chance to watch it in the TV at least once a year then surprisingly most of Austrians have never heard anything or seen Sound of Music themselves.
I consider the dogs’ rights slightly different in Austria compared with Estonia. You can see the dogs in the restaurants, in the fashion stores, even in the lectures.
There are different schedules for busses for school period and for summer. However the timetable actually differs only by one extra bus.”
